Workers’ Memorial Day
GMB Northamptonshire held an event in Corby on Saturday 27 April to mark Workers’ Memorial Day 2019.
Speakers included Rory Palmer MEP, a member of the European Parliament Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee, Beth Miler prospective Labour candidate for Corby and Kate Hill, Trustee of the JHMRF.
Kate talked about the research supported by the JHMRF and highlighted the three grants awarded in February this year. She also emphasised the need to raise workers’ awareness of asbestos and for vigilance in the workplace to reduce the risk of exposure to asbestos. A cheque for £2025 was presented to the JHMRF by Beth and Rory on behalf of the following:
- GMB Northants Community Branch
- Unite NN27 Branch
- CWU East Midland Branch
- UNISON Northants Health Workers’ Branch
- Unite Northants Central Branch NN44
- GMB Grimsby
- GMB Midland and East Coast Region
- Musician’s Union

A wonderful donation, greatly appreciated by the JHMRF, that will be used to support vital research in mesothelioma.
