UCATT Union supports research into mesothelioma
August 26, 2014
Construction workers’ union UCATT has donated £500 to June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund following last year’s Action Mesothelioma Event in Sheffield.
UCATT General Secretary, Steve Murphy, explains the significance of the donation, “Members of our union are most affected by mesothelioma because of working with products containing asbestos. Despite our vigorous campaigns, its use continued in the UK long after it was halted in other parts of the world.”
He adds, “Personally I believe there is no more innocent victim than a person diagnosed with mesothelioma, whose only crime was to work for a living. Whilst mesothelioma victims are now able to claim compensation from the Government, no amount of money can compensate for the suffering the person with mesothelioma goes through or indeed the heartache inflicted on family members.”
