Keen sportsman Christopher Ross cycled more than 400 miles through remote parts of Ireland to raise money for JHMRF.

Earlier this year, Chris cycled solo from the most northerly point of the country, Malin Head, to its most southerly, Mizen Head, battling wind and rain over the six-day journey through some of the country’s most beautiful scenery.

Along the way he encountered rough terrain, angry dogs, poor weather and a bad fall early in the trip which damaged his bike, which did not deter him from completing the challenge and raising more than £1,000 for JHMRF.

“The support and encouragement I received from people along the way both amazed and motivated me,” says Chris. “Complete strangers gave me cash donations and I received complimentary food from a number of guest houses.”

Chris undertook the trip in memory of his dad, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma and died in 2012. He has been raising awareness of the disease at a local level since his dad’s diagnosis and plans now to continue his fundraising by participating in other sporting challenges.

“Due to the generosity of family and friends over the last two years, and those I met along the way in Ireland, I have exceeded my fund raising target of £1,000,” says Chris. “A huge thank you to all my family and friends for your assistance and kind words.”
